626 Tamalpais Drive,If you asked me why I became a real estate agent, my answer would be—I am obsessed with homes. So maybe this bio should be called “my obsessions and compulsions.”
I connected with architecture and home design at an early age. My parents often found me redesigning the rooms of our home in North Carolina. I made floor plans. I moved furniture. I implemented decorating ideas from my mother's Better Homes and Gardens magazines. That connection to home design continued in college with architecture electives. Then, during graduate school, while earning my Master's in biochemistry at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and my law degree at the University of Houston, I toured mansions and sought open houses in Highland Park and River Oaks. Eventually, I applied that passion to my home renovation projects when I moved to Los Angeles at 29 to work as a biotech patent litigation lawyer.
I restored three homes over the years, partly driven by a need to make old things new again. My first home renovation—a 1922 California bungalow that I stripped to the studs and revamped for modern living—was featured in Home Magazine. Next, my husband and I restored a 1927 Spanish Colonial Revival built by the architect Paul Kingsbury. The project, which took eighteen months, was featured in the LA Times and Wall Street Journal. My third remodel was a 1970s-era condo in Wailea, Maui—where writing, surfing, kite-boarding, and swimming rule my day.
Since moving to Marin in 2012, we've lived in a ridge-top home in Kent Woodlands next to King Mountain. What I love about our neighborhood is the close proximity to the hiking trails of Mount Tamalpais State Park, which is in our backyard.
One thing I've learned from a 15-year career as a lawyer and underscored as a fiction and non-fiction writer, I thrive on routines and schedules. Most days, I'm up at five a.m., a quiet time to stretch, meditate, have my coffee and spend with Jack, our 110 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback. Then, I set my intentions for the day. Exercise is usually my first order of business. If I'm not running with Jack or mountain biking, I'm pool swimming with the North Bay Aquatics masters team or open water swimming with the South End Rowing Club in the San Francisco Bay. To this day, I attribute swimming to my solid work ethic and my ability to focus. I swam competitively in college, an experience that instilled a sense of dedication, courage, and discipline that I import into my professional and personal projects. The other benefit of swimming is the community of friends established, and the camaraderie engendered. I met my husband swimming, and most of my lifelong friends are from my swimming community.
Every home, like every person, is different, each with a unique story to tell. My writer side loves learning about the connection between a home and the lives of those who inhabit it. My lawyer side loves combining my knowledge of contracts and negotiations with my design and renovation skills to represent my real estate clients effectively. This unique culmination of interests has proven the perfect foundation and perspective to help sellers and buyers navigate and negotiate complex transactions securely and confidently, provide invaluable market insight, and advise on property and construction remodeling.
I know what a critical role I play in the real estate transaction, and my clients can trust that I'll represent them zealously and honor their intentions.
Buying and selling a home can but doesn't have to be a stressful ordeal. Let me bring my North Carolina southern charm, Texas tenacity, and California ease to make your real estate transaction meaningful and positive. Whether you are buying, selling, or need market data and trends, call me. Your real estate journey will thank you!
