Greenbrae

A small, unincorporated town at the entrance to Ross Valley.

Welcome to Greenbrae

Centrally located suburban town known for its sunny weather, lush hillsides, and beautiful waterfront overlooking Corte Madera Creek and the San Francisco Bay

Greenbrae is a small, unincorporated town residing at the entrance to Ross Valley and partially within the Larkspur community. It is adjacent to Kentfield, and the two suburban communities share a school district. The Kentfield School District is a significant draw for families as these highly-rated public schools are some of the most desirable in Marin County.

Once a model community constructed by builder Niels Schultz in the 1940s, Greenbrae has since evolved into a sunny town outside the fog belt with lush hillsides (the name Greenbrae literally translates to "green hillside") and beautiful waterfront condos. The houses on the hillside often have stunning views of the San Francisco Bay, Corte Madera Creek, and Mount Tamalpais, while homes in "the flats" are conveniently positioned just a short walk from the Bon Air Shopping Center and local parks.

What to Love

  • Choice of living in the rolling, verdant hillsides, the flats, or along the waterfront
  • Abundant open space, local parks, and many bike paths and walking trails
  • Convenient location, central and close to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal

People & Lifestyle

Only a few minutes away from Larkspur Ferry Terminal and San Francisco, Greenbrae real estate is highly coveted for commuters. It's nice to live in a peaceful, green area with abundant open space and all the advantages of a metropolitan area without urban congestion and traffic. Greenbrae is an idyllic place to live with an excellent central location that puts it in the middle of some of the Bay Area's best.

The lush, oak-covered hills are known for offering breathtaking views, and Mount Tamalpais serves as a dramatic backdrop for many homes and offices throughout the town. Because Greenbrae is outside of the fog belt, the weather is warm and comfortable all year, ideal for outdoor recreation. And with its position at the entrance to Ross Valley, Greenbrae real estate offers serenity and privacy. Homes are pricier because they are desirable, but it's a worthwhile investment.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Greenbrae has several great options to choose from when it comes to shopping and dining, sharing most of its better locations with the neighboring community of Kentfield.

Marin's Gott's Roadside is the largest chain on the Californian roadside, and the Greenbrae location is the only outpost in the Bay Area. Gott's is known for its community-style eating, incredible burgers, and thick milkshakes. The classic cheeseburger, Mahi Mahi tacos, and the Ahi burger are customer favorites.

The Bon Air Shopping Center is Greenbrae's top gathering place for shopping, dining, and relaxation. Home to over 50 stores and restaurants, Bon Air has a proud, 65-year legacy of serving the local community.

One of Bon Air's most popular eateries is the local Sweetgreen outpost. Vegan and vegetarian eaters will appreciate the plant-forward menu. You'll want to try the super green goddess salad or curry cauliflower bowl when you visit. Plus, Sweetgreen packs all meals in sustainable packaging.

Things to Do

In the heart of the Greenbrae community is the Hal Brown Park at Creekside, a 26-acre park with a playground, a health and wellness grove, amphitheater, petanque court, and an expansive turf area for play and relaxation. Walk the paths along the creek to see views of Mount Tamalpais and visit the grove for a variety of medicinal plants. The amphitheater provides space for community theater and musical performances.

The Bon Air Shopping Center hosts an annual Spring Fair & Market, a free, family-friendly event featuring locally grown and produced snacks and desserts, chef demonstrations, live music, sidewalk sales, giveaways, and interactive children's activities.

Bon Air also holds the Marin Rose Society Annual Rose & Photography Show during Mother's Day weekend. This annual rose show and photography exhibit showcase more than 40 categories of roses and countless rose and landscape photos to be judged by the American Rose Society.

Schools

Greenbrae is served by the Kentfield School District, a highly-rated public school district located in Kentfield. The College of Marin, a public community college, operates its primary campus in Kentfield.
