Tiburon

A prestigious commuter town and bustle of city life.

Welcome to Tiburon

A charming and affluent coastal town on the peninsula that makes an idyllic escape from nearby San Francisco

Located north of San Francisco in Marin County, Tiburon is a prestigious commuter town and ideal for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. This sophisticated coastal town is known for its picturesque setting and seaside charms.

While those who like to be on the water have plenty of options ranging from the yacht clubs to kayaking on the bay, miles of rugged terrain provides opportunities for those who like to keep their feet on the ground. This luxurious destination resides on the Tiburon peninsula, which reaches into southern San Francisco Bay. Nearby Belvedere is a smaller city contiguous with Tiburon, occupying the southwestern part of the peninsula.

What to Love

  • Amazing viewpoints throughout offer unobstructed views of the San Francisco skyline
  • Many great places to go running or hike along scenic waterfront paths
  • Convenient access to San Francisco without the urban congestion

People & Lifestyle

Tiburon provides residents with a relatively suburban vibe as this wealthy, bayfront enclave is isolated from the rest of the Bay Area. It's only accessible via ferry and two roads in and out of town. Most residents here appreciate the sense of seclusion as it creates a tranquil setting comprised of wildflower-covered hills, sparkling waters, and captivating views of the city skyline.

Homes are expensive, particularly the highly-coveted waterfront properties that can easily run in the multi-million dollar range. But many are happy to pay those prices for gorgeous views you won't find anywhere else. There is also a quaint downtown area, and Tiburon hosts several family-friendly festivals throughout the year, including its own film festival.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Chic gastropub Tiburon Tavern is ideal for anyone craving classic, farm-to-table dining, and coastal cuisine. With outdoor fire pits and happy hour specials, the tavern makes a great place to hang out with friends. But if you're in the mood for something more upscale and romantic, intimate eatery Caprice boasts stunning bay views and provides a menu filled with classic dishes.

Seafood lovers can't get enough of Sam's Anchor Cafe, famous for its breathtaking vistas, fresh seafood, and lively atmosphere. The cafe overlooks Angel Island and is one of Tiburon’s oldest local establishments. The Italian seafood-focused Luna Blu features a gorgeous harbor view. If you travel across the San Francisco Bay to Salt & Pepper, you'll find a comfortable neighborhood spot serving seafood and meat dishes paired with local wines.

When shopping in Tiburon, you'll have several different shopping districts to choose from, including the carefully curated women's clothing store Main St. Mercantile. Elsewhere in the area is the Ark Row Shopping Center, a Marin County mall where you can find everything from spices and gourmet candy to clothing and jewelry.

Things to Do

There are many entertaining ways to keep busy in the Tiburon-Belvedere area. The Corinthian Yacht Club in Belvedere offers cruising, sailing instruction, and racing. If you'd rather be a passenger, you can tour the beautiful Angel Island via the Angel Island Tiburon Ferry Company, operating daily.

Enjoy an experience unique to Tiburon at the scenic waterfront park Blackie's Pasture. Centered in the middle of the park is the famed, life-size bronze sculpture of Blackie, visible to all who drive by the grassy area. The 19-acre Paradise Beach Park features sweeping bay views, a fishing pier, rolling hillsides, and a lush redwood grove that makes the perfect picnic backdrop. Perched on a ridgetop, Old Saint Hilary's Preserve boasts fantastic panoramic views of the Tiburon peninsula. The preserve is also home to a historic church. The rare wildflowers and gentle breeze coupled with the majestic vista make this an idyllic picnic spot.

Given the town's rich maritime legacy, it makes sense there would be a local museum for visitors and locals to learn more about the town's history. Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum is well worth a visit.

Besides the parks and popular tourist hotspots, Tiburon also hosts several fun events throughout the year, like the Tiburon Wine Festival, Tiburon Taps Beer Festival, and the Tiburon International Film Festival.

Schools

Tiburon is part of the Reed Union School District. All three schools in the district are recognized as California Distinguished Schools.
